The Glebe Road Uniting Church was officially opened on the 6th September, 1987. It was the culmination of the coming together of the Newtown Methodist Church, the Silkstone Methodist Church and St John’s Presbyterian Church, from when the Uniting Church in Australia was formed on the 22nd June, 1977. This year marks the 42nd Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia.
Glebe Road UC continues to play a vital role in the local and broader Ipswich community. Partnerships with Silkstone State School and the Queensland Community Alliance in Ipswich, Habitat for Humanity (Qld) and Ekaristi Protestant Church in Dili, are expressions of our service to the community. Also there are the Glebe Garden Club and the annual Ipswich Home Gardener’s Expo, the well renowned Silkstone Eisteddfod which was awarded the Ipswich City Council Community Event of the Year for 2016, and the special free community Christmas event of Carols in the Park.
The people of Glebe Road UC express a diversity in: theological perspectives, cultural backgrounds, ages and stages of life; household compositions; physical and mental abilities, but a wonderful unity in the love of Christ and mutual respect for one another.
We share a dynamic faith in God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our worship, witness and service are inspired by our hearts’ desire to share the Good News of God’s love for every person in such a practical and meaningful way that each one would experience the life-transforming truth that “God loves me!”
